I have always like the clean lines of Scandinavian furniture and design. Which is probably why I like this image. What I see in this picture is warmth from the timber and freshness from the white. But even the red wine soaked brain of a neutral freak like me thinks it needs a bit of colour! Summer is all about colour this year. Which doesn’t mean everything new for thehome has to be colourful. You just need a little bit of colour to freshen things up. In this picture I would have used either a blue or red lamp to be the colour hero. A large brightly coloured painting would also work. I know its great to not hear me rave on about neutral for a change – go colour for summer, just go easy with it! Ginger girl xx [...]

Is grey the new white? I am not sure if you agree, but the industrial look is certainly a big hit at the moment. I do find the table and benches in this picture a bit cold looking. I can’t see myself sitting on the bench reading “50 shades of grey” without a few Ginger House cushions to sit on! (Please take note Christian Grey) It’s a nice example though, of how you can get the latest look without too much effort (or pain!). x

For good or bad there are plenty of black and white kitchens out there. But this image taken from the August 2012 issue of Real Living Magazine shows us how easily we can make a dramatic change by just adding one more colour, green in this particular example. The green chairs certainly add a fresh splash to the otherwise simple palette, the green glass in the chandelier not only bring colour to the room but a bit of fun, and who can overlook the cowhide zebra rug under the table. It will certainly distract anyone from the not so pretty washing machine… or the dirty dishes on the sink.

The cushions in this picture are introducing more colour (pinks mostly), but they have put nice bold blue cushions at the back to link the colour scheme together. And, I am sure you would have noticed the sofa is neutral in colour!

I told you blue is hot for summer. xx
